Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave, also known as extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT), is a therapy used for the treatment of many different musculoskeletal conditions. It is most commonly applied to chronic conditions (i.e., those lasting longer than 6 weeks) involving connective tissues and bones, such as tendinopathy and tendinitis, bursitis, fasciitis, neuroma, and stress fracture.

Shockwave is a safe, non-invasive, effective, and evidence-based therapy with minimal side-effects. Find out how you might benefit from Shockwave Therapy from the information below!

What are the benefits of shockwave?

Shockwave is specifically designed to accelerate the natural healing process.

The increase in local blood flow and metabolism created by shockwave applied to the treated area helps to break down and dissolve calcification. Calcification is a common cause of pain in disorders treated by Shockwave.

Shockwave stimulates bone healing and healthy new bone production.

Shockwave induces the healing of connective tissue, such as ligaments, tendons, and fascia. Healing induced by shockwave is usually long-term.

Shockwave decreases pain by influencing the nerve endings and the pathways from the affected tissues to the brain.

Is it right for me?

Shockwave is effective for a plethora of conditions. It is effective in both acute and chronic phases of healing, and it is most commonly used in the treatment of chronic conditions. While not exhaustive, below is a list of several conditions for which Shockwave is routinely used:

Plantar Fasciitis
Achilles’ Tendinopathy
Retrocalcaneal Bursitis
Lateral Epicondylosis (Tennis Elbow)
Medial Epicondylosis (Golfer’s Elbow)
Calcific Tendonitis (supraspinatus tendon, etc.)
Patellar Tendinosis (Jumper’s Knee)
Morton’s Neuroma
Chronic Stress/Non-union Fractures

Shockwave has also been shown to provide benefit in numerous other musculoskeletal conditions, such as muscle pain and decreased joint range of motion, hand conditions and more.
