Musculoskeletal screening

A Musculoskeletal screening is a structured assessment to identify any conditions that may predispose an individual to injury or hinder their performance within their particular sport. A full history and physical examination will be carried out by a Physiotherapist as well as a Functional Screen of specific movement patterns. This will take approximately one hour. The client will then be given a full written report on the findings. This is then followed up by another one hour consultation to allow the physiotherapist to prescribe the specific rehabilitation/training programme.

Gait Analysis

Motion analysis software is used to assess dynamic lower limb movement patterns while running both barefoot and shod.  The athlete can view their own running technique on screen and also take a digital copy home on memory stick or cd.

The Biomechanics podiatrist can identify any tissues that may be overloaded due to erroneous movement patterns and advise on lower limb strengthening, running technique drills, running footwear and orthoses (if required).

Gait analysis can also be conducted after cycling (brick session) to assess the lower limb movement patterns and neuromuscular control after cycling.

Athletes are asked to bring along all types of running footwear for analysis including traditional running shoes, minimalist shoes and race shoes/flats.

Bike Set Up

Professional motion analysis software is used to assess dynamic movement patterns while cycling your bike on our turbo trainer.  Both static and dynamic measurements are taken and bike position altered accordingly to improve cycling efficiency and comfort.  The athlete can view their cycling position on screen and take a digital copy home on cd or memory stick.

Bike set-up is of paramount importance in the treatment of lower back pain and knee pain while cycling.  The two most common cycling-related overuse injuries.

Cleat shims can be used for leg length differences or to change the angle the cleat attaches to the cycling shoes for treatment of certain overuse injuries.

Please bring your bike, cycling kit and cycle shoes to the bike set-up which takes 1 hour 30mins.

Strength & Conditioning

Gym sessions that will help you strengthen any areas of weakness and will make you stronger from head to toe reducing your risk of injury and improving performance.

Sports Massage

For the athlete, Sports Massage may be used in conjunction with stretching in order to help loosen, warm and prepare muscles so that performance and endurance might be enhanced. Following an athletic event, Sports Massage may be used to relieve pain, prevent stiffness, and return the muscles back to their normal state. It may also be used for injury rehabilitation. By helping to maintain the entire body in good physical condition, it reduces the possibility of injury and the loss of mobility, especially in high-risk areas and potential trouble-spots. It can aid in the cure of injured muscle tissue and restore mobility, boost athletic performance and enhance endurance, extending both the good health and overall life of a sporting career.

Performance Testing* Coming Soon

You will complete a fitness test throughout which measurements of Heart Rate and levels of Lactic Acid will be taken. From these figures specific training zones can be calculated to help make sure that during your training you are working at the correct intensity to help improve performance. This test can be completed for bike, run and swim.

Race Preparation

A one on one or group talk going through physical and mental preparation for Triathlon, discussing specifics such as tapering, race day warm up, transition set up and race tactics.

Triathlon Nutrition

A consultation will involve a one-to-one meeting where an athlete will bring along a food and training diary which will facilitate better individual tailoring of eating and drinking to training. Following this, a plan will be developed which addresses the individual needs and resources will be given to support this if necessary.
