Mark Blackburne

profilemarkBorn and raised locally Mark was educated at Methodist College Belfast and Queen’s University where he studied, and later taught, political science before forging a career in the financial sector. Having always maintained a keen interest in the medical sciences (on two occasions bemusing his school teachers and university tutors by studying biology and politics together) Mark decided to return to education to study Anatomy & Physiology and Sports Massage Therapy at The Portobello Institute in Dublin. Coming from what he describes as a ‘sports mad’ family, Mark is also a keen runner, cyclist, and most recently, kayaker, his experience of which have promoted a keen interest in the treatment of sports injuries, though hopefully not too many of his own.

Mark has a keen interest in the treatment of back pain, and in particular stress and postural induced upper back, shoulder and neck pain, which frequently responds well to the deep tissue techniques associated with Sports Massage Therapy. To compliment this he has also recently added ‘Hot Stone Massage’ to his available treatments finding its relaxing and de-stressing properties an effective tool in aiding the release of muscular tension.
